Local news, done the Wave way
Wave Locals is the network behind Long Island Wave, Gold Coast Wave and New York City Wave: three regional publications made the same way, by the same team, for the people who live there.
Built for the place you actually live in
Most coverage of a place is written from somewhere else, about somewhere else. Long Island Wave was built in 2021 to close that gap for Nassau and Suffolk: the new spot in your downtown, the project reshaping your commute, how to spend a Saturday without leaving the Island.
It worked, and in 2026 the same publication was made again for two more regions: Gold Coast Wave for Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade, and New York City Wave for all five boroughs. Wave Locals is the network they form, and the front door for the regions that come next.
The Waves are published by Wave Agency, a Long Island digital agency based in Melville. We build for the web for a living, and these are the publications we wanted our own neighbors to have: fast, free and genuinely local. The platform underneath every one is Wave Publisher.
One codebase, one standard, one team. A new region gets the whole publication on day one, not a blog with a town name on it.
The same four parts, every region
- Newsroom
A story every day, about here
Each region has its own newsroom and its own inbox. Stories are written for the people who live there, checked, and published with a photograph.
- Calendar
Events anyone can submit
What is on today and this weekend, with a submission form the newsroom reviews before anything goes live.
- Places
A directory with a point of view
Where to eat, drink, play and get outside in every town, with the places the newsroom has checked marked.
- Apps
Free on iPhone and Android
The whole publication as a native app, with push alerts for the stories that cannot wait and saved stories that work offline.
What every Wave promises
Free to read
No paywall and no subscription on any Wave, ever. Advertising from local businesses pays for the newsroom.
Marked when sponsored
Sponsored content is labeled as such on every publication. News is news and advertising is advertising.
Local, not syndicated
A Wave story is about its own region. Nothing is rewritten from a wire or copied between publications.
Corrected in the open
Every newsroom reads its own inbox. A correction is made on the story and noted there.
The next Wave is chosen by who asks
The network is built to grow a region at a time. Tell us where a Wave belongs and why, and you will hear from us when it is coming.
